2027 Slow Baja Vintage Expedition

Old rigs, good dirt, great food, and fine folks —that’s the recipe for the Slow Baja Vintage Expedition. Open to vehicles that are thirty years old or older, look thirty years old, or are flat-out cool. Need clarification? A 1997 4Runner is eligible as it is 30 years old, and because the model didn’t significantly change until 2003, 4Runners up to 2002 are eligible. Some Land Rovers from the 2000s may qualify; Jeep owners: the older, the better.

Questions? Shoot me a photo of the rig and a short description via the contact button.

During this Slow Baja Adventure, we will explore the best dirt roads in Baja Norte, savor delicious food, and camp in breathtakingly beautiful locations. Our non-competitive, slow roll adventure begins Sunday morning, October 10th, near San Diego. We will cross the border together and caravan to the spectacular off-the-grid Rancho La Bellota. Our gracious host, Raul, will treat us to lunch, followed by a leisurely horseback ride. In the evening, we will enjoy a ranch-raised lamb on a spit, slow-roasted for 12 hours. Following dinner, it’s time to sip a little fine tequila and get to know each other around the campfire.

Community, camaraderie, and analog travel are the key ingredients that make the Slow Baja Vintage unique. Ideally suited for 4x4s—think Land Cruisers, Broncos, Scouts, Land Rovers, and Jeeps—the trip is also suitable for VW Things, Dune Buggies, Baja Bugs, and vintage race rigs that want to enjoy Baja at a slower pace.

Our seven-day slow travel experience will both exhaust and excite you, hopefully sparking your interest in returning to explore the hidden beauty of Baja. With ranch stays, beach drives, and a bucket-list journey through every type of terrain in Baja Norte, this Slow Baja Vintage is an event not to be missed. Our finish-line fiesta will be served poolside at the renowned Horsepower Ranch Hotel.

**Nuts and Bolts: What to Expect**

Expect to drive four to six hours daily. This time estimate excludes delays due to breakdowns, tire changes, airing up and down, taco binges, dog petting, ice cream stops, spontaneous swims, and silt-bed extractions. You will need Mexican driving insurance, and we strongly recommend Baja Bound Insurance. We also require all participants to purchase travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage; check out World Nomads for details.

Your entry fee includes pre-planned routes, three meals per day, private campsites, and hotel lodging on the final night. Our staff will handle photography and filming, allowing you to fully enjoy the experience. A mechanic and volunteer with first responder medical training will travel with us to ensure your safety. Please note that your entry fee does not cover fuel, repairs, towing, or any other expenses related to vehicle maintenance in Baja.

On the Slow Baja, sharing is caring, so please plan accordingly. We’ll enjoy a very happy “happy hour” each night, but be sure to keep your cooler stocked. Bring your favorite campfire drink for the evenings and your coffee kit for the mornings. If you have questions about your vehicle, terrain, or camping gear, please hit the contact button.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellation fees shall be applied per entrant according to the following schedule based on the date we receive your written notification:

  • Cancellations initiated by the entrant received via email to Slow Baja with more than 60 days’ notice before the Adventure start date will receive their deposit as a credit towards a future Slow Baja Adventure.

  • The credit expires one year after the event that you withdrew from.

  • Cancellations initiated by the entrant, received via email to Slow Baja with 30-60 days’ notice before the Adventure start date, will forfeit their deposit as a cancellation fee. Subsequent payments can be used as a credit towards a future Slow Baja Adventure.

  • The credit expires one year after being issued.

  • Cancellations initiated by the entrant received in writing to Slow Baja with less than 30 days’ notice before the adventure start date will forfeit all monies (deposit and any subsequent payments) as a cancellation fee.

  • No refunds will be provided for an unused portion of an Adventure once the trip begins, including if you leave or are removed from it. The adventure price is a package; refunds and credits are unavailable for unused services.

  • There are no exceptions to this cancellation and refund policy, including weather, terrorism, civil strife, personal or family emergencies, or any other circumstances beyond our control. We strongly encourage you to purchase trip cancellation and interruption insurance.

  • Slow Baja is not responsible for expenses that entrants incur in preparing for a trip or for any additional pre- or post-departure arrangements. This term applies whether the Adventure is altered, modified, or canceled for any reason. Because the Adventure may be canceled when a minimum number of entrants have not signed up, we recommend that you purchase refundable air tickets or wait until we have confirmed the Adventure 60 days before the event date.
